Make money from online marketing

October 22nd, 2009 2 comments

Online Marketing Strategies:

Marketing your online store involves more than just registering your Web site with a couple of search engines and waiting for the world to beat a path to your door. Make money from blogging is an important method to make money online. As the number of shoppers on the Internet has grown, so too has the number of Web sites and land-based businesses clamoring for a piece of the multi-trillion-dollar e-commerce pie. As many Internet companies have discovered, even with a multi-million dollar marketing campaign, it’s difficult to get the attention of Internet users – even for just a split second. After all, Internet users are bombarded with so many advertisements every day and see so many Web sites, it’s hard for any one firm to stand out.

One of the most difficult jobs to make money online is, you’ll have as an e-commerce merchant is figuring out what blend of offline and online marketing techniques to use to promote your Web site. If you’re a small business, that challenge is even greater on a tight budget. The right marketing mix depends on many factors, including the types of products you are selling, the types of people you are trying to target, and, of course, your marketing budget.
In this guide, we’ll review a variety of different techniques for raising the profile of your online store and attracting shoppers to your Web site. Marketing your Web site is not an easy task, nor is it a short one – you’ll need to work hard and work continuously to make sure that your online store doesn’t get lost among the billions of pages of information on the Web.

(1) Know Your Audience!

The key to successful marketing is very simple: know your audience. Before you spend any time or money on marketing, you need to know who your target market is. What types of customers are most likely to buy the types of products you are selling? For example, males or females? What age bracket? What income bracket? Are you trying to reach people with certain interests or skills? Once you know the profile of your typical customer, you need to find ways of reaching customers with that demographic profile. This may involve online advertising, offline advertising, or a combination of the two. But don’t even begin to think about spending money on marketing until you’ve spent time thinking about who you are trying to reach. You may even need to do some market research to uncover this information. We can’t emphasize this step enough. Your marketing efforts won’t be successful unless you are spending your marketing dollars in the right places.

(2) Your Brand Name

One of the most important marketing assets to make money that you have is the name of your online store. Give it careful consideration. You should pick a name that’s easy to remember yet distinct from other similar names on the Internet. Closely related to the issue of picking a name is choosing a suitable domain name. The domain name is the part of your Web site address that appears after “www.”

To avoid confusing your customers, you will want to have a domain name that is as close as possible to your organization’s name. This will also make it easier for customers to find your Web site. For example, customers looking for Eddie Bauer’s Web site would probably start by typing www.eddiebauer.com into their Web browsers. In addition to being close to your business name, your chosen domain name should be short, easy for your customers to remember, and intuitive.

Finally, keep in mind that you don’t have to have “www” in your Web address. In addition, you can, with the help of the technical folks who support your site, sometimes use words or characters in front of your actual domain name, and get an extra “identity hook” that might be unique enough to draw attention to your site. One such example of this is the Web site Beer.com, which gained some attention during the 2000 Olympics. It ran an ad that used the address mmm.beer.com – indeed, during the commercial, the graphic showed the “www” flipping over to become “mmm,” as the announcer mimicked the “mmmm” or “tastes good” sound. There was a huge increase in traffic to the site.

It’s important that both your brand name and your Web site address be as distinctive as possible to avoid confusion with other similar companies selling on the Internet. There are tens of thousands of merchants on the Internet all vying for attention, making it difficult for online merchants with similar names to get noticed. Even if the domain name you want is available, you should find out if similar names currently used by online stores might compete with yours. Many online merchants have found it necessary to change their names because their names were being confused with other similar names on the Internet. When trying to come up with a name for your online store, consider getting a group of friends or colleagues together to brainstorm with you. Alternatively, you could hire a market research firm to hold focus groups with consumers.

Issues to Consider When Choosing a Name for Your Online Store
? Can you get a Web site address (i.e., domain name) for that name?
? Is the name too long?
? Is the name easy to pronounce?
? Are there other Web sites or online stores with similar-sounding or similar-looking brand names or domain names?
? Is your name unique or distinctive enough?
? Is your name memorable and does it make an impression?
? Is the name consistent with the image you want to project?

Affiliate marketing, The big make money way

October 20th, 2009 2 comments

There are millions upon millions of dollars being earned in affiliate marketing with every year that goes by. It’s one of the best ways to make money to get started making money online you don’t need a website, you don’t need a blog, you don’t even need any cash to get started, since there are plenty of ways to reach your perfect audience and start selling to them.

But if you really want to achieve some success with affiliate marketing you need a plan that will get you the level of income you want. Read on to find out how to do just that. Every time someone buys something online, the chances are that someone else is making a commission on it. That’s how affiliate marketing works.

But how do you get involved?

The best place to start is by going to a website that houses a wide range of affiliate products. This keeps everything together in one easy to access place and gives you plenty to explore. You can also get an idea of which particular areas you would like to concentrate on. The worst thing you can do in affiliate marketing is to use the scattergun approach. This is when you try and promote a wide range of products that aren’t connected with each other, all from a single website. In essence it isn’t aimed at anyone – and you’ll make fewer sales as a result.

Instead, do some research and come up with a specific group of people that you can find a wide range of products for. Not only do you stand a much better chance of making a sale, you’ll probably make more to each person since they will automatically like what you are offering. But if you don’t have a website, how can you promote your products?

There are several ways of doing this. One of the best is to use sites like Squidoo, which allow you to build web pages for free on pretty much any subject you like. Once these get indexed by Google you’ll start getting a steady stream of traffic – if you’ve picked a popular subject. You can also write articles and distribute them to a number of article directories – but make sure you use ones which allow you to link to affiliate links. Not all of them do.

At the beginning I mentioned the need to have a plan to reach the level of income you want. Not many affiliates actually do this and it’s one of the main reasons why more people aren’t making a lot of money with affiliate marketing. It’s certainly not because the potential isn’t there – it’s because they don’t plan to take advantage of it in the right way.

You should always look at how much you will get by way of commission for each product. Obviously the less the commission, the more units you willm need to sell to achieve your desired income. You’ll achieve this through a balance of products obviously, but it’s worth bearing in mind.

You also need to think about the type of people you are marketing to. What kind of income do they bring in? How much are they likely to want to spend on the products you’ll be offering? If you don’t match these two aspects up properly you will struggle to make any real sales.

It’s also helpful to set short, medium and long term goals to help keep things in perspective. A short term make money goal might be to sell five products a week continually, for example. A long term goal could be to make $100,000 a year from affiliate marketing. Goals will help you to decide where you want to go with your fledgling affiliate marketing business.

Another important point to be aware of is that it’s wise to protect your income wherever you can. What I mean by this is that affiliate links can be rather obvious at times, and some people will actually delete your link and go into the site and buy something while denying you the commission.

The easy way to prevent this is to use a link cloaking service. There are plenty of free versions of this online, and it’s really the safest way to protect your interests. It also changes a long ugly link into a nice short one – much nicer for the article directories!

In short, start slowly and keep those visions of a huge income in perspective to begin with. You’ll soon get to know your way around the business and with each new experience you can build your knowledge and earn even more in the months and years to come.

Make money from membership websites

October 20th, 2009 No comments

There is big make money to be made from websites as we have seen, but there is one type of website in particular that is a bit different from the rest. What makes it so interesting is that it actually limits the number of people who can get into it and make use of what it has to offer. This might sound like a strange way to earn money but in actual fact it is well worth doing if you have a good subject to start from.

Informational membership sites are websites which charge people to gain access to them. Everyone will be able to see the main home page (and sometimes certain other pages as well) but the bulk of the website cannot be seen until each person pays their money to gain access.

The key to designing a membership site that works is to pick your subject carefully. It should be something that you know a lot about, and which other people will also find interesting. More than that however, it should include information that people will be willing to pay for. If the information you include could be found by any other means then your site will not work. What’s more, it could damage your reputation too.

So this obviously calls for some research. You need a subject that will always be popular and has brought in a lot of money for other people already. One of the best examples will be working from home – there are always people wanting to know how they can do this and earn plenty of make money online without the drudge of going out to work every day.

Let’s that that as an example for online jobs. The key here is to approach that broad subject from an angle which may not have been done before, and which will form the basis of a membership site which provides people with information they cannot get elsewhere. If you don’t have a specific focus and you don’t have some exclusive information to provide your members with every month, then you don’t have a site. It’s that simple.

As far as the website itself is concerned, you will need to make sure your web host can handle a site in which people can log in and log out of their own accounts as and when they wish. You can set up monthly payment schedules online with certain providers; once you have integrated the relevant payment buttons into your website it should automatically take the payment from the customer every month. To get an idea of how much to charge, the best thing to do is to research similar sites to see what they are offering and how much they are charging for it.

When it comes to designing your website, make sure your home page is welcoming for your members, but also make it enticing enough to encourage more people to join. By doing this – and by driving plenty of traffic to your site – you should soon build up a respectable membership base that will hopefully grow into a nice monthly income for you.
